Benchmark - Gospel Essentials

In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him and nothing was created except through him. The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone (John 1:1-4 New Living Translation). In the beginning God created man to dwell with him and to live in constant relationship with him. Today his purpose for his creation remains the same. The Christian worldview thrives on his love for humanity and wanting a consistent relationship with his creation. God choosing his son to die for the whole of humanity, show the how far and wide his love goes. The Christian worldview clings to the reassurance of God being all-powerful and all-knowing creator, humanity is born into sin and in need of redemption and Jesus Christ the Messiah, is the answer for mankind to be reunited with God and inherit eternal life.

God is the creator, he has several boundless attributes and he loves mankind. In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1). God created the world and everything in the universe by his command. …for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see— such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him. He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together. Christ is also the head of the church, which is his body. He is the beginning, supreme over all who rise from the dead. So, he is first in everything. Colossians 1:16-18. He created everything from nothing using his words. His creation shows his intention and reveals his nature. He created the entire universe in six days (("Lecture 2," 2017.) God one third of the Trinity. The Trinity is God the father, God the son (Jesus) and God the Holy Spirit. All three parts of the Trinity remain in constant in relationship with each other. Together they form all of God, whom Christians love and worship today.

Humanity is God’s most prized creation (Genesis 1:27.) God created humans and thought it was good. Man is a God’s most unique creation, because humans are made in God’s image and we can communicate directly with God. God created man with free will. Man was created in God’s image to rule over the other creations and to multiply in it. In Genesis 3, man used their free will to disobey God thanks to a trickster serpent. Man was deceived by the serpent, but the male willingly disobeyed God when he ate from the tree of the knowledge of Good and Evil. The female was led into sin by the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eye, and the pride of life (Smith, 1996.) On this day, sin was born. From then on, all humans would be born into a sinful nature.

Because of Man, disobeying God in the Garden of Eden, the need for blood sacrifice to atone for their sins begins here. In the Christian worldview, Jesus the messiah, is that Solution.

Jesus, the second part of the Trinity. As previously mentioned, Jesus is atonement for man’s sinful nature. Jesus was born of immaculate conception, making him fully man and fully God. He grew up with humble beginnings and during his time on earth, he hung with sinners. Jesus was sweet to little children. He saved an adulterous woman from a stoning. He had compassion, whilst being angry. Jesus walked and talked, just like a man would. Jesus also, gave his life for us. Jesus was beaten, bruised, hung on a cross and stabbed to complete the final atonement for the sins of the entire world. Those who have confessed with their mouths and believed in their hearts, that God raised Jesus from the dead are called Christians or followers of Christ (Romans 10:9.) Jesus was man’s living, breathing example of how they should live and be like as fulfill their purpose in the world today.

The Christian world view, says that they only way to true restoration is to simply repent of sins and follow the way of Jesus Christ. “In Christian theology, atonement is provided by Jesus’ self-offering on the cross on behalf of humanity. Jesus Christ represents all humanity and offers to God a sacrifice that reconciles humanity and God (Hiles & Smith, 2014.)”

Christians are saved through grace by faith. This is the only true way to salvation.
